Representing Southeast Europe at MIT’s Universal AI Summit with SeriousMind

We are honoured that SeriousMind was selected as one of the Top 10 startups by StartSmart South Eastern Europe to participate in the MIT Universal AI Summit at Athens College.

For us, this is more than a line on a presentation slide. It is a meaningful milestone for SeriousMind and for the wider Southeast European AI ecosystem.

The summit took place on June 30, 2026, at the Athens College Theater, bringing together founders, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss how artificial intelligence can move from promising ideas to real-world impact. Ten startups from the StartSmart SEE Accelerator 2026 Finals were selected to present their ventures on stage.mituai.startsmartsee+1

A Southeast European voice in AI

Being present on an MIT-linked stage means more than visibility.

It means that AI startups from Southeast Europe are increasingly being recognised as serious contributors to global conversations about technology, ethics, entrepreneurship, and social impact.

For founders building in the region, these opportunities matter. Southeast Europe has talented researchers, ambitious entrepreneurs, and strong technical teams. What it often needs is greater access to international networks, investors, partners, mentors, and platforms where regional innovation can be seen and understood.

StartSmart SEE plays an important role in creating these connections. Its accelerator supports deep-tech startups across Southeast Europe and provides access to mentors, structured growth support, and international opportunities without taking equity from participating companies.app.startsmartsee+1

SeriousMind: AI, games, and human potential

SeriousMind’s contribution to this conversation is clear.

We develop AI-powered serious games that combine psychology, psychometrics, game design, and behavioural analysis to explore personality, behaviour, and human potential.

Through interactive experiences such as MindEscape, players enter digital escape rooms and realistic scenarios where they solve problems, make decisions, collaborate, explore, and respond to pressure. Their gameplay generates behavioural data that can be transformed into actionable insights for:

  • HR and recruitment.
  • Corporate training.
  • Education.
  • Vocational guidance.
  • Team development.
  • Clinical and psychological applications.

This is our play-to-reveal approach. Instead of relying only on what people say about themselves, we also examine what they do when they encounter meaningful challenges.

The objective is not to replace human judgement or reduce personality to a single number. It is to provide organisations and individuals with additional evidence that can support more informed, transparent, and human-centred decisions.

From regional startup to global conversation

The MIT Universal AI Summit offered an opportunity to present SeriousMind within a much larger conversation about the future of artificial intelligence.

AI is changing how organisations work, how people learn, and how decisions are made. But technological progress must be accompanied by responsibility. We need to ask not only what AI can automate, but also what it should help us understand, how its outputs should be interpreted, and how people can remain at the centre of the process.

For SeriousMind, this means developing technology that connects innovation with human development. Our work aims to make assessment more immersive, behavioural, and accessible while maintaining scientific grounding and responsible use.

Gratitude to the community

We are deeply grateful to StartSmart SEE and the selection committee for their trust and recognition.

We also thank MIT Open Learning for helping build a platform where founders, researchers, and organisations can explore the future of AI together.

Most importantly, we are grateful to our team, mentors, partners, and wider community. Their support continues to push SeriousMind forward—from research and prototypes to real-world applications in HR, education, and clinical contexts.

Milestones like this are never achieved by one person alone. They are built through collaboration, persistence, and the belief that ideas developed in Southeast Europe can create value far beyond the region.

The beginning of collaboration

If you are building an AI or deep-tech startup in Southeast Europe, I would be delighted to connect.

Representation on international stages should not be the end of the story. It should be the beginning of new collaborations across borders—between startups, universities, investors, researchers, and organisations looking for responsible applications of AI.

SeriousMind is proud to contribute to this growing ecosystem.

The future of AI is being shaped in many places. Southeast Europe should not only be part of that future. It should help build it.
