SeriousMind at TEDxUoWM: Rethinking Behaviour Through Games and AI

At TEDxUoWM in Kozani, I had the opportunity to share how SeriousMind uses serious games and artificial intelligence to rethink the way we understand human behaviour.

Instead of asking people to complete long forms and describe how they usually act, we invite them to play. Through digital escape rooms and realistic interactive scenarios, participants face challenges that reveal how they make decisions, solve problems, collaborate, explore unfamiliar situations, and respond to pressure.

Artificial intelligence then analyses these gameplay patterns to generate insights into personality, behaviour, and human potential.

From questionnaires to behaviour

Traditional personality assessment often depends on self-report questionnaires. These tools can be useful, but they also rely on how people perceive themselves and how they choose to answer.

SeriousMind explores a complementary approach: personality assessment through gameplay.

In our serious games, players do not simply select an answer from a list. They act. They make choices, change strategies, manage uncertainty, communicate with others, and respond to evolving situations.

This creates an opportunity to observe behavioural patterns connected to:

  • Problem-solving style.
  • Planning and decision-making.
  • Collaboration and teamwork.
  • Adaptability and persistence.
  • Exploration and curiosity.
  • Responses to pressure.
  • Social and communication behaviour.

The aim is not to reduce a person to a single result. It is to use structured gameplay and AI-powered analysis to produce additional insights that can support more informed and human-centred decisions.

Connecting research with entrepreneurship

The TEDxUoWM talk also connected two important parts of my journey: my PhD research in artificial intelligence at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and my role as founder of SeriousMind.

Research provides the scientific foundation for understanding behaviour, designing assessment models, and evaluating how gameplay data can be interpreted. Entrepreneurship creates the opportunity to transform that knowledge into tools that people and organisations can use.

SeriousMind was built at this intersection of:

  • Artificial intelligence.
  • Psychometrics and personality assessment.
  • Serious games.
  • Game design.
  • Behavioural analysis.
  • Human-centred technology.

This journey demonstrates how deep-tech research can move beyond academic prototypes and become practical technology for HR, education, vocational guidance, and clinical applications.

Applications beyond recruitment

One of the key ideas I shared at TEDxUoWM was that game-based assessment has applications far beyond recruitment.

For HR professionals, serious games can complement CVs and interviews by providing insights into how candidates approach realistic challenges. For educators and career counsellors, they can support vocational guidance by helping individuals reflect on their strengths, preferences, and behavioural patterns.

The same approach can also contribute to:

  • Employee development.
  • Team-building and collaboration.
  • Leadership assessment.
  • Educational programmes.
  • Digital wellbeing.
  • Psychological and clinical research.
  • Personal development.

In each case, the technology should support human judgement rather than replace it. Responsible use requires transparency, appropriate interpretation, data protection, and clear communication with participants.

Bringing a Greek AI spin-off to the TEDx stage

Speaking at TEDxUoWM was also an opportunity to share a Greek AI spin-off story with a wider audience.

SeriousMind shows how ideas developed through research, supported by mentors and entrepreneurial ecosystems, can become products with international potential. It is a story about building technology in Greece while addressing global challenges in recruitment, assessment, education, and human development.

The experience was made even more meaningful by sharing the stage and journey with people who support innovation, entrepreneurship, and research. TEDx events create a space where technical ideas can become accessible stories—and where complex questions can reach audiences beyond academia and the startup world.

Imagining a more human future

The future of recruitment and assessment does not have to be defined by forms, keywords, and automated decisions.

It can include immersive experiences where people demonstrate how they think, collaborate, and respond to challenges. It can combine AI with psychology while keeping human dignity, transparency, and personal development at the centre.

That is the vision behind SeriousMind: to use serious games and artificial intelligence not merely to measure people, but to help individuals and organisations understand behaviour more meaningfully.

At TEDxUoWM, I invited the audience to imagine a future in which games, data, and psychology work together to create better tools for recruitment, education, clinical practice, and digital wellbeing.

The future of assessment may not begin with a questionnaire.

It may begin with an experience.
